Holistic Birth Doula Support in West Yorkshire

Labour and birth advocacy and preparation in Huddersfield, Kirklees and Halifax, Calderdale and surrounding areas.

Empowered, held and deeply supported…

Birth is sacred. It is powerful, transformative and a rite of passage. It’s a time when you are at your most susceptible, most vulnerable, and at the same time more powerful than you may have ever felt.

As a holistic birth doula, I am here to protect your space, honour your choices, and walk alongside you with love, care and respect.

My support is not about taking over or telling you what to believe or do, but about being a guiding light, holding you so you can remember your own strength, trust your instincts, and be guided by your intuition.

How I can support you as your doula:

I offer prenatal birth preparation with the option of being on call exclusively for you from 38 weeks and attending your labour and birth, at your home.

Choose the level of support you need: an all-encompassing birth package offering continuity of care and support through the ten moons of pregnancy to the postpartum stage; the same meaningful level of support but from later in your pregnancy through labour and birth to the postpartum stage; or simply your birthkeeper through pregnancy, helping you prepare and plan for your baby’s birth, confident that however your birth experience unfolds, it will be a positive one.

Your birth held sacred and honoured by your doula and birthkeeper

Research shows that having a doula can reduce the chance of a caesarean or assisted birth, reduce the need for medication, reduce the length of labour and result in babies with higher Apgar scores as well as creating a more positive birth experience.

As your doula and birthkeeper, I will honour the sanctity of your baby’s birth, protecting your space and honouring your dreams and desires. I don’t offer clinical advice or replace your midwife – I work in partnership with your birth partner(s), and those privileged to be present in your birth space.

As your doula and birthkeeper, I can help you be your best self when you give birth, having prepared through pregnancy for one of the most important days of your life.

I am your guiding light, walking alongside you on your journey, reminding you of the power of your intuition and helping you weave the sacred into your pregnancy. I encourage your unshakeable faith in your own body, not dismissing any imperfect outcomes, with the knowledge that birth can be unpredictable but also that birth can flow as intended when you feel unobserved and undisturbed.

“She was incredibly supportive throughout and provided so many helpful resources that made a real difference. My partner also benefited hugely from the sessions, feeling more informed, confident, and involved in the process. Most importantly, she gave me the confidence to trust myself and aim for (and get) the birth I wanted. She was truly the person I needed at that time. I’m so grateful and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.”

Frequently Asked Questions about Doula

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please do get in touch – I look forward to hearing from you.

A doula is an advocate, a companion who offers support and encouragement through pregnancy and birth, often attending a birthing woman or person’s labour and birth. A birthkeeper recognises the sacredness of birth and protects it, honouring the birthing woman or person, before, during and after birth.

Absolutely! You can have whoever you choose, as many or as few as you wish, at your labour and birth. Doulas are often a great source of guidance for birth partners, and a doula will usually meet with the birth partner before birth, to identify and go through any worries or questions. A doula may assist with any children who are present at the birth, engage with midwives if they attend, and help to ensure your birth plan is honoured.

There are so many benefits, some proven through research and some anecdotal. The Cochrane Review (updated 2019) conducted research with over 15,000 women and birthing people, and found a doula improved several health outcomes for the birthing person and baby. Having a doula has also been linked to shorter labours, fewer interventions, less medicalised births and resulting  in people feeling more positive about their birth and postnatal experiences.

As soon as you would like. My Ten Moons package begins as soon as you’re ready, at the beginning of your pregnancy journey, when you invite me to walk alongside you as your advocate and companion. If considering another of my packages which can start later in pregnancy, I would recommend getting in touch at the earliest opportunity to secure your dates. For the packages that include on-call labour and birth attendance, I offer exclusivity. My commitment protects your birth experience and means I am on-call for one birth at a time.

“Rosaleen was a supportive and positive presence all the way through my pregnancy and postnally. She provided excellent guidance through hypnobirthing, helping to put together my birth plan, navigate hospital appointments and make informed, empowered choices about my pregnancy and birth.”
